After thrteen years as our Choir Director, James has been appointed as the Director of the Sydney Male Voice Choir. We wish him well in his new position. This page has been left up as a courtesy to James.

James Paul is a music educator, Choir director and performer with a diverse background including conducting choirs, teaching music in schools, running music therapy groups and performing internationally as a singer and instrumentalist.

James has appeared on a number of CD recordings, primarily as a singer and guitarist of Spanish classical and Flamenco music.  As a performer, James has appeared in major venues and festivals nation-wide with his group Flamenco Fire, touring regularly for the Australia Council and Arts QLD.  James’ compositions have been aired on ABC Classic FM and 2MBS and he has performed live on ABC local radio in Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin and Adelaide, as soloist and also with his choirs.

His choral conducting experience includes Sydney-based gospel choir Stairwell to Heaven, the Willoughby Symphony ChoirRaise Your Voice – a choir for young people with Down’s Syndrome, and Sydney Street Choir.

James has taught music at Juvenile Justice centres around Sydney and through projects targeting young people at risk and/or with mental health issues.  As an Artist-in-residence James has taught choral programs in public schools across NSW.  He also runs Music Therapy classes for the disability community around Sydney.
