How to Join
What Does it Cost?
The choir is self-supporting: which means we pay for the hall we practice in, the music we use and the professional musicians who are our Choir Directors. While the choir is occasionally paid for performances, the bulk of our income comes from choir fees. As at July 2017, these fees are set at $150 for a 10 week term. It is possible to pay by the week and the weekly fee is $20. We prefer that members pay by the term because it reduces the work load of the treasurer.
What Do We Expect from You?
We do expect you to be able to sing in tune and keep to the rhythm of the piece. It is very rare for a person to be tone deaf but if you have any doubts about your ability to sing, you could consult one of our choir directors,
We do expect you to attend a reasonable number of practice sessions and to learn your songs in your own time. This is particularly important when we are coming up to a performance. What is "reasonable", of course, depends on how hard the music is and how good you are.
We do expect you understand choir etiquette. With the most important rules being only one person speaks at a time, pay attention to the person who is talking and never put-down another choir member.
We don't expect you to stand all night but you can usually sing better when standing.
We don't expect you to be able to read music when you begin. But you will enjoy it more if you learn some basic skills. Sydney Community College offers a course entitled Music Skills Essentials.
